CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Senior setter Lauren Alejo was named the Choice Hotels Big South Volleyball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Alejo earned Tournament MVP honors as she tallied 111 assists, 10.09 assists per set, 24 digs, 2.18 digs per set and six kills in three matches last week for the Chanticleers at the Lady Vol Invitational. In CCU's 3-0 win over Jacksonville State, she recorded 32 assists and six digs. Alejo followed that up with a weekend-high 42 assists, five digs and four kills in the Chants 3-1 win over Georgia Tech. In the last match of the weekend she posted a double-double with 37 assists and 13 digs against Tennessee, as Coastal won the championship with a 2-1 record.   

Alejo is the first Chanticleer this season to earn a Big South Volleyball Player of the Week honor. Last season the Chants collected two Player of the Week honors and one Freshman of the Week honor.

The Chants return to action Friday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. as they open up Big South Conference play at Winthrop.
