CONWAY - The Coastal volleyball team will be traveling to Clinton, S.C. on Friday, September 23 to take part in their first Big South Conference match of the season, as they will face Presbyterian College at 7:00 p.m.
The Chanticleers are heading into conference play having won their past six conference openers. Coastal hasn't lost a conference opener since 2004 when they fell to High Point 3-1.
Coastal will also be looking to extend their win streak coming off of wins over Norfolk State (3-0) and North Carolina A&T (3-0) at the Davidson Tournament that was played on September 16-17 in Davidson, N.C.
Presbyterian will also be playing in their first conference match of the season, after going 1-3 at the Georgia Southern Tournament.
The Chanticleers are heading into the match on Friday with an attacking percentage of .192 and are averaging 11.7 kills, 10.8 assists, 1.5 service aces, 14.6 digs and 1.4 blocks per set.
Sophomore Meghan Laffin is leading the team in kills 2.90 per set and points, averaging 3.12 a set and fellow classmate Lindsay Gill is leading the squad in digs with an average of 3.51. Freshman Katie Martinhas a total of 38 blocks and 19 service aces to lead the Chanticleers.
Presbyterian is averaging 12.0 kills, 11.1 assists, 1.2 service aces, 11.3 digs and 1.6 blocks per set on the season. Presley Mabre has a team high 0.40 aces a set and 162 kills. Kelly Berryman is leading the Blue Hose in blocks (37.0), while Mary Trimpe is leading the team in digs (157).
Coastal will take on Big South opponent Winthrop in another road match up on Saturday, September 24 at 2:00 p.m. in Rock Hill, S.C.
The Eagles open up their conference season against Charleston Southern on Friday, Sept. 23. Winthrop is averaging 2.16 blocks per set, 11.6 kills, 10.7 assists, 1.3 service aces and 15.2 digs.
The Chanticleers will return home on Tuesday, September 27 at 6:00 p.m. when they take on in-state rival College of Charleston.
