CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Junior Kristin Wolf (Andover, Kan./Andover) and sophomore Jill Nyhof (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview) each tallied a double-double on Saturday as Coastal Carolina University 's women's volleyball team won both matches at the Comfort Suites 49ers Volleyball Tournament Saturday, Sept. 8. Coastal won the first match 3-2 over UNC Greensboro and then defeated Morgan State 3-1. Game scores from the UNC Greensboro match were 31-29, 25-30, 28-30, 30-24, 15-13. Game scores from the Morgan State match were 30-27, 29-31, 30-25, 30-21.
Trailing 2-1, Coastal rallied in game four to force a deciding game five with Spartans. With a 14-11 lead in the decider, Coastal saw the Spartans reel off two points to make it a one-point game. However, a Nyhof kill sealed the win.
Wolf recorded the first double-double of her career with career-highs of 13 kills and 16 digs against UNC Greensboro. Nyhof and freshman Megan Bickford (Olathe, Kan/Olathe South) totaled 20 and 19 kills, respectively. Bickford also hit .576 in the match with no errors. Sophomore Megan Pollard (Naperville, Ill./Naperville) had a match-high 21 digs, while sophomore Meagan Tracey (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon) put up 64 assists. Elizabeth Flattery led UNC Greensboro with a match-high 25 kills.
In the second match of the day, the Lady Chants took a 2-1 lead. However, Morgan State looked like it was going to force a game five after taking a 15-12 advantage midway through the game four. However, Coastal battled back, tying the game twice before a Tracey service ace gave Coastal the lead for good.
Nyhof had her first double-double of the season with 26 kills and 14 digs. Junior Brett Starbuck (Glen Allen, Va./J.R. Tucker) totaled a match-high 28 digs, Tracey put up 60-plus assists for the second straight match, finishing with 60.
Nyhof and Bickford each earned spots on the All-Tournament Team. Nyhof ended the weekend with 58 kills and a .304 hitting percentage. Bickford had 41 kills and hit a team-best .438. She also totaled 15 block assists, averaging 1.25 block assists per game.
Coastal returns to action on Friday, Sept. 14 when it hosts The Caravelle Resort Invitational. The Lady Chanticleers kick off the tournament with a 12:30 p.m. match against Gardner-Webb.
