The Coastal Carolina University volleyball team (2-2) had four players with nine or more digs and hit .367 in game three to defeat Northeastern University (1-4) 3-0 in its final match at the LMU Four Points-Sheraton Classic Sept. 3 in Los Angeles, Calif.
Senior Jennifer Hampton (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) and junior Kristin Rinne (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Fountain Hills) had 11 digs apiece to pace the defensive attack. The Lady Chanticleers had nine digs apiece from senior Katherine Jensen-Spencer (Vancouver, B.C./Sentinel Secondary) and freshman Brett Starbuck (Glen Allen, Va./JR Tucker). Jensen-Spencer also had 14 kills on the night and a .355 hitting percentage.
Coastal had the .367 hitting percentage, compared to -.150 for the Huskies. Junior Laura Obert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) had five blocks, including three solos, as the Lady Chants had five solo blocks.
The Lady Chants are back in action Friday, Sept. 9 at the GlaxoSmithKline UNC Volleyball Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. Coastal faces South Carolina at 4:30 p.m.
