Volleyball Defeats Canisus and Bucknell to Win the Hampton Inn-vitational

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Coastal Carolina volleyball team took the crown at the 2002 UB Hampton Inn-vitational at Alumni Arena in Buffalo. The Lady Chants defeated Canisius, 3-0 (30-25, 30-19, 30-17)this morning in match one, then defeated Bucknell, 3-0 (30-21,30-28, 30-21) in the afternoon contest, to go a perfect 3-0 for the tournament.

In match one, senior Jeanne Lambert had 17 kills in 38 attempts and 26 digs, while Sarah Bennett and Lauren Wozniak had eight kills each. Kim Hoffman led Cansius (0-2) with 10 kills and 10 digs. Jennifer Hampton also had 39 a match-high assists for CCU.

In match two, Lambert paced the Lady Chants with 19 kills and 26 digs to help lead CCU (3-0) to the three game victory. Carly Draudt had 13 digs and Bennett had 12 digs to also lead the Lady Chants. Jennifer Wrigley led Bucknell (1-2) with 11 kills and 16 digs.

Lambert, along with Hampton were named to the All-Tournament Team. Lambert finished the tournament with 48 kills and 81 digs, while Hampton had 104 assists for the three-match tournament.

The Lady Chants will next compete in the Davidson College Tournament on Sept. 6-7. Teams competing in the tournament include: Davidson, N.C. A&T and SE Louisiana.
