Volleyball Opens Season With Win Over The Citadel

The Coastal Carolina volleyball team (1-0) defeated The Citadel in three straight games Tuesday night. The Lady Chanticleers faced the Bulldogs in Kimbel Arena during their first match of the season. The Citadel kept tight games throughout the match, but were out hit by the Lady Chanticleers who had a .309 percentage, where as the Bulldogs had a .011.

Katherine Jensen-Spencer (Vancouver, B.C./Ole Miss) led the Lady Chanticleers with 15 kills, and gained her 1,000 kill in her career. Jennifer Hampton (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) assisted the Chants victory with 40 assists for the night. CCU had a total of 49 kills, 45 digs, and 47 assists for the night.

The Citadel's Stefanie Faris led the Bulldogs with five kills, will Crystal Bessler tallied six assists for the night. The Citadel had a total of 20 kills, 21 digs, and 16 assists for the night.

Coastal will now travel to the Loyola Marymount Four Points Sheraton-LAX Classic in Los Angeles, Calif. September 2-3.
