Volleyball Picked Fourth in Big South Preseason Poll

CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina University volleyball team was picked by league coaches to finish fourth in the Big South Conference, as announced by the league office Thursday morning (Aug. 28). Sophomore Megan Bickford (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South) was named to the Preseason All-Conference team.

Liberty received eight first-place votes and 80 out of a possible 81 votes, followed by Winthrop, who received one first-place vote (71 points) and High Point (60 points). Coastal Carolina claimed the fourth spot tallying 52 points. UNC Asheville (48 points), Presbyterian (33 points), Gardner-Webb (25 points), Charleston Southern (21 points) and Radford (15 points) round out the preseason selections.

Bickford, a 2007 Big South All-Conference First team and All-Freshman team selection, was instrumental during her first year at Coastal Carolina, appearing in all 116 games and 32 matches. She finished fifth in the conference in hitting percentage (.331) and third in blocks per game (1.21). Bickford concluded a stellar rookie season with Coastal Carolina's top hitting percentage (.337), block assists (105) and total blocks (118).

Coastal Carolina begins an eight-match road trip this weekend at the Hawthorn Suites Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. The Chanticleers will face first time opponent Winston-Salem State, Fri. Aug. 30 at 4 p.m. Live stats will be available at www.GoCCUsports.com at Game Day Central.
