Volleyball Picked Second in the Big South Preseason Poll

Coastal Carolina’s volleyball team received 114 points including three first-place votes, to grab the second spot in the Big South Conference’s annual preseason poll, the conference office announced Tuesday. The Chanticleers are coming off a season where they finished 21-10 overall, including 9-5 in the Big South Conference, and advanced to the Big South Tournament Semifinals. Coastal is bringing back six starters from the 2004 season, plus the libero.

Winthrop captured the top spot by receiving 12 of the 16 first place votes and 124 points overall. The Eagles won the tournament title in the Big South last season and finished a perfect 14-0 in the Big South regular season.

Coastal senior Katherine Jensen (Vancouver, B.C./Sentinel Secondary) received 12 points and one first place vote in the Preseason Player of the Year poll. Mary Hock of Winthrop received 12 first place votes for a total of 28 points.

The 2005 Big South Volleyball Preseason Poll is voted upon by the Conference’s Head Coaches and Sports Information Directors.
