Volleyball Tabbed Second in Big South Preseason Poll; Bailey and Horvath Honored

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - In a vote of the conference head coaches, the Coastal Carolina volleyball team was picked second in the Big South preseason poll, the conference office announced today. In addition, rising senior Kindra Bailey and rising sophomore Gabriella Horvath were named Preseason All-Big South.

Liberty, the conference's defending regular season and tournament champion, was selected to finish first, garnering 98 points and eight first-place votes. Coastal, who finished second in the league last season and appeared in the Big South championship game, was voted second with 92 points in addition to receiving a pair of first-place votes. High Point (78), UNC Asheville (56) and Presbyterian College (54) rounded out the top five. Radford received 52 votes to finish sixth in the poll followed by Winthrop (47), Gardner-Webb (32), Campbell (20) and Charleston Southern (20).

The 2012 Chanticleers, who were led by first-year head coach Jozsef Forman, finished the campaign with a 14-14 overall mark and an impressive 10-4 record in Big South play. The 2013 team returns 13 members from last year's team including Bailey, Horvath and Big South All-Freshman team member Eszter Nagy. In addition, Coastal also returns starters Lauren Alejo, Meghan Laffin and Monica Hall.

Bailey, a first team all-conference performer a year ago, earns her first preseason all-conference honor after recording 213 kills last season to go along with her team-high 99 blocks. The Irmo, S.C., native also led the Chants and ranked fourth in the Big South with .304 attack percentage.

Horvath made a large impact for the Chanticleers in her rookie campaign that culminated with a Big South All-Freshman team plaudit. Horvath started all 28 matches, playing in 116 of a possible 117 sets. She led the Chants and ranked fifth in the conference with 348 kills. In addition, the Budapest, Hungary, native finished third on the team with 24 service aces and 48 blocks while also recording 236 digs.

The 2013 season gets underway with the Chants hosting Youngstown State, Wofford and Iowa in the Coastal Carolina Tournament on Aug. 30-31.
