Volleyball Selected Second In Big South Preseason Poll; Bernett and Horvath Honored

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) - In a vote of the conference head coaches, the Coastal Carolina volleyball team was tabbed second in the Big South preseason poll, the conference office announced Tuesday. In addition, rising juniors Lian Bernett and Gabriella Horvath were named Preseason All-Big South.

Radford, the conference's defending regular season and tournament champion, was selected to finish first, garnering 93 points and six first-place votes. The Chanticleers, who finished second in the league last season and made a second consecutive appearance in the Big South championship game, were voted second with 90 points in addition to receiving a pair of first-place votes. Liberty tallied 82 total points, including two first-place votes, to place third in the poll. High Point (75) and Winthrop (55) rounded out the top five. UNC Asheville received 37 votes to finish sixth in the poll followed by Campbell (36), Gardner-Webb (35), Presbyterian College (32) and Charleston Southern (15).

The 2013 Chanticleers finished the campaign with a 19-12 overall mark and an impressive 10-4 record in Big South play. The 2014 squad, who are led by third-year head coach Jozsef Forman, returns nine members from last year's team including Bernett, Horvath along with fellow starters Eszter Nagy and Jenna Orner.

Bernett, a second team all-conference performer a year ago, earns her first preseason all-conference honor after recording 322 kills last season, including double-digit kills in 17 matches, to go along with her 62 blocks. The Leesberg, Va., native also ranked 10 in the conference in service aces per set.

Horvath followed up her impressive rookie campaign with first team all-conference recognition as a sophomore last season. She started 29 matches and played in 118 of a possible 123 sets. She led Coastal and ranked 10th in the conference with 337 kills. In addition, the Budapest, Hungary, native paced the Chants with 38 service aces, while also recording 248 digs.

The 2014 season gets underway with the Chants taking on UNC Wilmington, Eastern Washington and Fairfield at the UNC Wilmington Tournament on Aug. 29-30.
