CONWAY -
Coastal Carolina University volleyball Head Coach Kristen Bauer announced the addition of two transfers to the 2011 roster in Jamie DiMaggio and Sam Skryd.
DiMaggio (Crystal Lake, Ill./ Prairie Ridge HS) appeared in 163 sets at Kishwaukee College and registered 624 digs in her sophomore season to average 3.83 digs per set and lead the team. The 5-8 defensive specialist finished with 110 service aces on the year to rank second on the team and had a season high of 24 digs twice. DiMaggio recorded double-digit digs in 36 matches, including 13 matches in a row while tallying five service aces three times during the season.
"Jamie is an experienced defensive specialist with superior fundamentals and a great mobility," Bauer said. "She has a competitive spirit and a championship mentality which we hope to see the minute she steps on the court."
Skryd, who hails from Naperville, Ill., appeared in seven matches at Baylor University and tallied 27 assists, averaging 2.70 assists per set while setting a career high of seven assists twice. The 5-9 setter recorded seven digs on the season and registered a career high four digs against University of Texas San Antonio on Sept. 1. Skyrd was named to the fall Baylor Dean's List and Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Prior to Baylor, Skryd helped lead Neuqua Valley High School to three consecutive conference championships, a school-record 23 wins and was named an Under Armour Preseason All-American while earning All-State, All-Area and All-Conference honors as a senior. She was tabbed Prepvolleyball.com's Senior Aces Top 150 list and was selected to the Chicago Times Top 50.
"Sam understands the tough role of a setter and already has high level collegiate experience." Bauer stated. "Her skills are polished both in the front and back row making her a constant threat. Sam's positive attitude, drive and passion for the game will be a great compliment to our team."
