2010 Schedule

CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina University volleyball program and Head Coach Kristen Bauer have released the 2010 schedule which features four in-season tournaments, 13 home matches and the defense of the Big South Tournament championship in November.

The Chanticleers open the 2010 season Friday, Aug. 27 at Wake Forest in the Deacon Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. Coastal also will face Georgia and East Tennessee State in the four-team tournament. The Chants then visit Blacksburg, Va., and Virginia Tech for the Hokie Invitational Sept. 3-4. The Chants face Jacksonville State and Long Island as well as Virginia Tech in the tournament.

A road match at Campbell Tuesday, Sept. 7 is followed by Coastal's lone home tournament of the year. The Chanticleers face The Citadel Friday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m., Norfolk State Saturday, Sept. 11 at 12 p.m., and USC Upstate Sept. 11 at 6 p.m.

The Chants last in-season tournament of the year, the Kennesaw State Owl Invitational, will be Sept. 17-18 and include host Kennesaw State, Troy and Ohio State. Coastal then starts the Big South schedule Tuesday, Sept. 21 against Charleston Southern in Kimbel Arena. Match time is at 6 p.m. That starts a streak of nine of the next 12 matches at home. The Chants visit UNC Asheville Sept. 25 at 2 p.m., but have the next three matches at home, facing UNC Wilmington Sept. 28, Gardner-Webb Oct. 1 and Presbyterian Oct. 2.

Road trips to Winthrop and Liberty are followed by a five-game home match streak. The Chants face High Point and Radford Oct. 15-16, Campbell Oct. 19, UNC Asheville Oct. 23 and Winthrop Oct. 26.

Coastal will end the regular-season with five of the last six matches on the road. The Chants face Presbyterian and Gardner-Webb Oct. 29-30 on the road. Coastal then is at Charleston Southern Tuesday, Nov. 2. The last home match of the season will take place Saturday, Nov. 6 against Liberty at 7 p.m. Coastal concludes the regular season with road matches at Radford and High Point Nov. 12-13.

Coastal will defend its Big South Volleyball Championship trophy Nov. 18-20. The conference tournament will take place on the campus of Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C.

Coastal will face two teams - Long Island and Ohio State - that advanced to the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

Coastal Carolina returns four starters from last year's team that went 20-14 overall, 10-6 in the Big South Conference, won the 2009 Big South Volleyball Championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament against Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb.
