Today was our second day in Slovenia. The hotel Arena is a really cute place with cottage-like rooms and great views from the balcony and windows. Outside the hotel, there is a mountain covered with tall trees. There is a ski lift going up the mountain and a roller coaster thing coming down. Rachel Bonertz and I ventured out the first day and took the ski lift up looking over Slovenia. The ride down was exhilarating because you were strapped in a yellow cart and could control how fast you wanted to go. In the morning, we woke up and walked downstairs to a buffet style breakfast that consisted of coffee, cereal, eggs, sausage, and bread. Everything was pretty good and if it tasted a little funky I would just load it with salt or sugar. One thing that was different was that they served warm milk for your cereal. After breakfast, we traveled in the team van to the gym to play our first match against the Slovenian Junior National Team. The gym was very small and our warm-up was shared hitting on half of the court. The first three games it was a struggle for us to wake up and start finding the court but we opted to play another game at the end. The last game of the morning set was a lot better. When the match ended, we came back to the hotel and had lunch. We all were so tired from all the traveling and waking up early we all crashed until we had to get ready for our afternoon match. The gym that we played in the afternoon was the same one we played in the night before. It was a big gym with lots of room to chase down balls. Before warm-ups began, Jill and I asked to join in with the girls on the Junior National Team and played short court. It was really fun because we all had the same reactions and since we didn't understand we would just laugh. The game progressed into "A Pipe C" in which the girls taught Ashley and I some words that may have been inappropriate, but I guess I'll never know. I think we all put into perspective that we will probably only be in Slovenia once to play against their Junior National Team so we might as well live it up. We had a lot more energy and started playing well together. After the match, only half of us could fit in the van at a time, so the rest of us had some time to entertain ourselves. Rinne and I decided to pepper and coach's husband joined in until he jammed his finger from setting. We got back to the hotel and ate dinner and then were planning to go up the gondola to the spa. Plans all got switched around because the guy running the gondola said that it would not be working on the way down and we would be stuck on the mountain. So some of us decided to great some ice cream and hot chocolate and then spent the rest of the night at a little place called Peggy's to socialize and just have a good time.
