CONWAY, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina volleyball Head Coach Kristen Bauer has announced the signing of Erika Lightsey (Monument, Colo./Air Academy) to a National Letter of Intent.
"Erika is a quick athlete with a good vertical and great instincts," Bauer said. "We will look to her quickness and power to be an offensive force."
An 5-9 outside hitter, Lightsey is a two-time letterwinner on Air Academy's team and served as the Kadets' team captain during her senior season. She wrapped up her career at Air Academy with a stellar senior season, leading the 5A Colorado Springs Metro Conference in kills en route to being selected as Air Academy's Offensive Player of the Year. Lightsey picked up multiple honors for her efforts on the court, including First Team All-Conference, Regis All-Tournament Team and the Comcast Entertainment Television (CET) Player of the Game. In the classroom, Lightsey is a two-time First Team Academic All-State selection, receiving the honor in both her junior and senior seasons.
Lightsey, who has played four years of club volleyball, joins Kelsie Mauck (Muncie, Ind./Delta) as part of this year's signing class. Coastal finished the 2007 season with an overall 15-17 record and a 6-6 mark in the Big South Conference. The Lady Chanticleers advanced to the semifinals of the Big South Tournament before falling to the regular-season and eventual tournament champion Liberty.
