CONWAY, S.C. - Coastal Carolina University volleyball Head Coach Kristen Bauer announced the signing of two players to National Letters of Intent that will be on the 2011-2012 squad in Taylor Stafford (San Antonio, Texas/MacArthur) and Lian Bernett (Leesburg, Va./Heritage).
Stafford lettered in volleyball two years at MacArthur High School and as a senior, she finished with 157 kills, averaging 1.45 kills per set and 120 blocks to average 1.80 per set. She was named All-district honorable mention her senior year.
“Taylor is an extraordinarily talented athlete,” Bauer said. “She is very strong and we are most impressed with her ability to terminate offensively. I believe she has huge potential for growth and I can’t wait to see how she develops through the Fall semester.”
Bernett lettered in volleyball all four years at Heritage High School, totaling 1009 kills, 41 solo blocks and 941 digs. As a senior, she finished with 312 kills, 300 digs and 15 solo blocks and was named to the All-State first team. She earned Offensive Player of the Year and Loudoun Player of the Month honors. Bernett helped her team win two AAA Cedar Run District Championships her junior and senior years. She played for the Virginia Elite VBC for four years and helped her team qualify for Nationals three times and become champions in 2009 and 2011.
“Lian is a smooth player possessing good ball control, a big blocking presence and a great work ethic,” Bauer stated. “Lian plays with a high level of intelligence and we look for her to be a dynamic six rotation hitter. She is a stellar student as well.”
Stafford and Bernett join Melissa McGwin and Katie Martin as part of the 2011 signing class.
