CONWAY, S.C. - The Western Carolina volleyball team defeated Coasta Carolina, 3-2 (28-30, 30-26, 30-32, 30-25, 15-12) in the night cap of the first day of the CCU Classic at Kimbel Arena.
Western Carolina was led by Michelle Gortaon who had 22 kills and Tricia Eble who had 17. Shari Harder had 56 assists to help pace the Catamounts.
CCU (4-3) was led by senior Jeanne Lambert who had 18 kills and Katie Knutson and Carly Draudt who had 13 each. Jennifer Hampton had 56 assists for the Lady Chants.
In match one, Pittsburgh (4-4) routed Savannah State, 3-0 (30-4, 30-3, 30-4). Wendy Halstead unofficially had 19 kills, while, Carrie Norris had 42 assists.
The final day of the 2002 CCU Classic will begin tommorrow at 10 a.m. in Kimbel Arena.
