CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina volleyball team extended its win streak to three matches with a 3-2 victory over High Point University inside The HTC Center Saturday afternoon. The win was the Chants' tenth Big South victory of the year doubling their 2011 total of five. CCU also secured the number two slot in the Big South Conference standings which ranks as the best finish by the Chants since the 2008 season when Coastal finished tied for first in the standings.

Coastal honored its two seniors, Samantha Palka and Jamie DiMaggio, following the thrilling victory.

The win moved the Chants record to 12-13 overall and 10-4 in Big South play while High Point's record fell to 20-10 overall and 9-5 in Big South action.

The Chants were led by freshman Gabriella Horvath who registered 20 kills and five digs. Juniors Kindra Bailey and Meghan Laffin and freshman Eszter Nagy all registered 11 kills and five blocks.

Junior Lauren Alejo had an outstanding match as she had 47 assists, 10 digs and four kills. DiMaggio led the team in digs with 17 in her final match in Conway while junior Sam Skryd added 14. Sophomore Jenna Orner added 10 digs as well.

High Point was led by Chelsea Davis with 18 kills while Courtney Simpson dished out 50 assists and had 12 digs.

Coastal won the first, third and fifth sets while High Point won the second and fourth set. The game scores were 25-23, 17-25, 25-21, 22-25 and 15-10.

The third set featured one of the best comebacks all season as the Chants found themselves down 18-12 but rattled off a 13-3 run to take a 2-1 lead in the match. The fourth set looked like it was going to feature another stellar Coastal comeback as the Chants fought of five-straight set points before the Panthers were able to close the set 25-22. CCU stormed out of the gates in the fifth and final set taking a commanding 9-3 lead early in the stanza. The Chants would hang on to the lead the rest of the way winning 15-10.

Coastal will return to action Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Big South Conference Championship where the Chants will face number seven seed which has not yet been determined.
