Chants Sweep Charleston Southern to Remain in First

CHARLESTON - The Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina swept the Buccaneers of Charleston Southern for the second time this season to keep a hold on first in the Big South Conference standings. Sophomores Lian Bernett and Gabriella Horvath led the way with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.
The Chants won 25-23, 25-20 and 25-21 to move their record to 16-10 overall and 9-3 in Big South play. The Buccaneers fell to 6-22 overall and 0-12 in the conference.
CCU has two more regular season matches and holds a half game lead over Radford. The Chants hold the tiebreaker over Radford due to a victory over the Highlanders earlier this season.
Bernett added a pair of service aces and five digs to her total while Horvath had seven digs. Sophomore Eszter Nagy added nine kills while hitting .444. Seniors Meghan Laffin and Kindra Bailey contributed seven and six kills, respectively. Senior Lauren Alejo dished out 36 assists while picking up nine digs. Junior Jenna Orner led the team with 11 digs.
The Buccaneers were led by Siraya Windsor who had eight kills, three blocks and 12 digs.
The Chants hit .261 in the match while holding CSU to .165. The Bucs won the blocking battle 7-2 and had five service aces compared to CCU’s three. The Chants edged the Bucs in digs 49-48.
The Chants will return to action this Friday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. as they travel to Campbell.
