CLINTON - The Coastal Carolina volleyball team fell 3-1 on the road at Presbyterian Saturday afternoon. The Blue Hose took the early advantage with a 25-11 first set victory. The Chants took the second set 25-22 before Presbyterian took the final two sets 25-20 and 25-23.
The loss drops Coastal's record to 9-13 overall and 7-4 in Big South play while the Blue Hose move to 11-15 overall and 8-3 in BSC action.
Coastal swung for a .179 average while the Blue Hose had a .289 average. The Blue Hose had a commanding 70-50 lead in digs and out-blocked the Chants 10-4.
CCU was led by freshman Gabriella Horvath and junior Meghan Laffin who each had 13 kills. Horvath added a service ace, six digs and a block while Laffin had four digs and a block. Junior Lauren Alejo had 39 assists and four digs while sophomore Jenna Orner led the team with 15 digs. Junior Kindra Bailey had a hand in all four of the Chants' blocks while junior Sam Skryd finished second on the team in digs with 11.
Presbyterian was led by Presley Mabrey who had 16 kills and 11 digs. Three others had 12 kills each.
Coastal will return to action Friday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. as the Chants host Charleston Southern who snuck past the Chants 3-2 earlier this season in Charleston.
