LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Coastal Carolina volleyball team fell in straight sets at Liberty University Saturday afternoon. The Flames played one of their best matches of the year to down the Chants 25-20, 25-20 and 25-21. CCU was led by senior Kindra Bailey and sophomores Eszter Nagy and Gabriella Horvath.
Bailey had a team-high nine kills on the day along with six blocks. Nagy chipped in eight kills and four blocks while Horvath had seven kills, three service aces and a block. Senior Lauren Alejo dished out 26 assists while contributing a pair of service aces, four digs and two blocks.
The Flames were led by Caroline Douglas who had a match-high 11 kills while Jade Craycraft turned in the Big South’s second triple-double of the season with 10 kills, 30 assists and 11 digs.
CCU hit just .104 as a team while the Flames came in at .283 after a first set hitting percentage of .464.
The Flames jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the first set and kept the Chants at bay the rest of the way. The Chants kept it close in the second set until the 17-17 mark when the Flames went on an 8-3 run to take the set, 25-20. The third set again saw a late run by the Flames as they claimed a 25-21 victory.
The Chants will return to action Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. inside the HTC Center against Gardner-Webb for another Big South Conference match.
