Chants Suffer Three-Set Loss to FAU
Greensboro, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina volleyball team fell in three sets (24-26, 20-25, 22-25) to Florida Atlantic Sunday afternoon in the Chants' final match of the UNC Greensboro Spartan Spiketacular.
FAU's Abbi Reid powered the Owls with 15 kills and a .478 hitting percentage, as well as a pair of blocks, in the sweep. As a team, FAU hit .222 to Coastal's .191, and registered 50 digs compared to Coastal's 40.
Sigourney Kame also finished with double-digit kills for FAU, tallying 11, and added a trio of blocks. Mimi Marion was the Owl's lead blocker with five.
Coastal's Leah Hardeman recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 15 kills and 10 digs, and hit .217. Leah Levert and Kyla Manning also put down seven kills each, with the former hitting .500 and adding five blocks.
FAU led the entirety of the first set, and used a 9-4 run to build a 19-14 advantage.
Coastal led twice in the second set, but surrendered the lead for good when FAU scored five straight points to take a 19-15 lead. The Chants brought the margin to two points, but made no further progress as the Owls jumped ahead by two sets.
The Chants led by as many as six points in the third frame before losing that lead as they were plagued by errors. Trailing 11-17, FAU went on a 7-3 run to bring the score within two, then scored five straight points to take a 23-20 lead. A pair of CCU errors gave the final two points to the Owls.
Coastal closes its nonconference schedule next weekend with a pair of matches in North Carolina. The Chants are at Duke Friday with a 7 p.m. match, and follow with a 7 p.m. match at UNC on Saturday.
