CHARLESTON - The Coastal Carolina volleyball team split its final two matches of the Hampton Inn CofC Invitational hosted by College of Charleston. The Chants opened the day with a 3-0 loss to Big Ten member Indiana before sweeping South Carolina State, 3-0.
The Chants improved their record to 2-4 on the season while the Hoosiers improved to a perfect 5-0 and the Bulldogs fell to 0-6.
The Hoosiers swept the Chants out-scoring CCU 25-21 in all three sets.
Senior Kindra Bailey led CCU with eight kills on 16 attacks with a .375 attack percentage. She also added three blocks including one solo. Sophomore Gabriella Horvath added seven kills on 18 attacks. Redshirt junior Lindsay Gill dug up a team-high 16 balls while senior Lauren Alejo dished out 24 assists.
The Hoosiers were led by Awele Nwaeze who had 11 kills and three blocks.
The Chants cruised to a 3-0 sweep on South Carolina State with set scores of 25-16, 25-16 and 25-22.
Bailey led the way with 14 kills off of 19 attacks and an astounding .737 attack percentage. She also added five service aces and a pair of blocks. Horvath added eight kills and junior Katie Martin had seven kills on 10 attacks good for a .700 attack percentage. Alejo dished out 27 assists and had three service aces.
The Chants had a season-high .321 attack percentage as a team powered by Bailey and Martin’s .700-plus percentages.
Coastal will return to action next Friday, Sept. 13 at the Kennesaw State Owls Classic. CCU will battle both Samford and Tennessee Tech on Friday.
