Women's Track and Field Team Earn All-Academic Honors

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's track and field team earned United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic team honors following an outstanding 2011 season where the Chants won the Big South Conference Outdoor Championship.

The Coastal Carolina women's track and field team has received the USTFCCCA All-Academic team honor for the ninth consecutive year. To make the list, the team must have a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Chanticleers earned their spot on the list with a team GPA of 3.02 as 26 athletes also placed on the Big South Presidential Honor Roll.

During the 2011 season three Coastal Carolina women's track and field individuals and the 4x100-meter relay team qualified for the East Preliminary Round of the 2-11 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Kierra Gabe broke the school record in her junior season in the high jump with a mark of 5'8.75" at the Penn Relays. Deborah Mattern made her mark on the Chants program during her senior season by setting the school record, as well as the Big South Conference record, in the javelin throw with a mark of 151'00" at the Seminole Invitational. The 4x100 relay team also set a school record with a time of 44.83 at the North Florida Invitational. Ashley Davis, Darriale Henley, Erica Peake and Melekia Simpson were members of the record setting 4x100 relay team.

A total of 164 institutions earned the honor with five institutions representing the Big South conference.
