NEW ORLEANS, La. - For the 10th consecutive year, the Coastal Carolina University women's track and field program earned the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team award. In addition, Mary Lawrence and Danielle England were honored as All-Academic honorees by the organization.

With a 3.02 team grade point average, Coastal was one of 171 NCAA Division I teams to earn the honor for the 2012 season. Six Big South Conference schools received the award. In order to be honored, a program must have a team grade point average of 3.00 or better.

"It is an important part goal for our team to have a cumulative GPA above a 3.00," said Alan Connie, Coastal Carolina Director of Cross Country and Track and Field. "With all of the academic resources and support on the Coastal Carolina campus, I look for us to continue to receive this honor each year."

Coastal Carolina had 16 student-athletes recognized by the conference on the Big South Presidential Honor Roll for earning at least a 3.0 GPA for the 2011-12 academic year. In addition, Mary Lawrence was named to the Big South Indoor Track and Field All-Academic team, while Emily Marchini was recognized with the honor for the outdoor season.

The Chanticleers also turned in superb performances on the track as the team captured its second consecutive Big South Outdoor Track and Field championship and seventh since 2004. Senior Kierra Gabe earned Most Outstanding Field Athlete honors for both the indoor and outdoor season capturing a combined three event titles and five all-conference honors. Erica Peake, a junior, was named the Most Outstanding Track Athlete for the outdoor season as she amassed five first-place finishes at the championship meet.

Five Chants qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round of the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, including Gabe who set the CCU all-time high jump mark with a leap of 1.77m (5-09.75) in her final time wearing a Chanticleer uniform.
