May 21, 2010
The Coastal Carolina University women's track and field team will send three athletes to compete in four events in the East Region of the NCAA National Championship in Greensboro, N.C. May 26-29, announced today by the NCAA.
Senior Ikeiylah Brown will compete in the 200 meters, seeded 10th, and would have easily made the field in the 100 meters, but was scratched to concentrate on the 200 meters. Brown's time of 23.27 in the 200 meters at the Big South Championship April 15 qualified her for the first round of the NCAA Championship.
Junior Brittany Connor qualified in both the hammer and the discus throws. Connor just made the field, seeded 48th, in the discus with her performance at the Big South Championship with a mark of 155'9" (47.47m). In the hammer throw, she is seeded 46th after her mark of 178'10" (54.50m) at the Big South Championship.
Redshirt-junior Deborah Mattern qualified in the javelin, seeded 33rd, with her performance at the Big South Championship, throwing 146'5" (44.64m) in the event.
Out of the 48 selected for each event in each region, the top 12 of each region advance to Eugene, Ore., for the NCAA semifinal and final rounds June 9-12.
