CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's 4x100-meter relay team has been named the Big South Women's Track Co-Athletes of the Week, splitting the honor with Manika Gamble of High Point. Additionally, Kierra Gabe was named field athlete of the Week, as announced Wednesday by the conference office.
The Coastal Carolina women's 4x100-meter relay team of Ashley Davis, Darriale Henley, Erica Peake and Melekia Simpson turned in a school-record time of 44.83 to finish second in the event at the North Florida Invitational. The quartet broke the previous record time of 45.28 that was established in 2009.
Gabe finished second in the high jump at the UNF Invitational with a height of 5' 8.50". She missed her school record mark by just a quarter of an inch.
Both Gabe and the 4x100-meter relay team are expected to qualify for the first round of the NCAA Championships along with Big South and Coastal Carolina javelin record holder Deborah Mattern.
