CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina’s Erica Peake was tabbed the 2012 Big South Women’s Track and Field Most Outstanding Track Performer and Kierra Gabe was chosen as the Women’s Most Outstanding Field Performer, as voted on by the head coaches, the league announced Monday. Additionally, head coach Alan Connie was named the Big South Women's Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year.

Powered by the superb performances of Peake and Gabe, the Coastal Carolina women’s track and field team scored 234 team points to win its second consecutive Big South Outdoor Track and Field Championship and seventh in the last nine seasons.

Peake, a junior from Spartanburg, S.C., collected five first-place finishes during the 2012 championship. She posted a time of 11.75 in the 100-meter event and followed with a clocking of 23.70 in the 200-meter event. She ran the second leg of the 4x100-meter relay event to help her team to a time of 45.63 and closed the meet out in the third leg of the 4x400-meter relay as her team finished with a time of 3:45.75. She also claimed the top spot in the long jump with a leap of 5.83m (19-01.50).

Gabe, a senior from Adams Run, N.C., finished on the podium in all three jumping events. She claimed first in the high jump with a Coastal Carolina-record leap of 1.76m (5-09.25). In the long jump, Gabe finished second with a mark of 5.75m (18-10.50). She closed out the meet with a second-place jump of 12.31m (40-4.25) in the triple jump.

Connie’s coach of the year honor was his second consecutive as he led the Chanticleers to back-to-back Big South Conference championships. In all, Connie has garnered 30 coach of the year honors -- 12 in cross country, nine in indoor track and field, and nine in outdoor track and field.
