March 31, 2011
The meet will get under way on Friday at 4:30 pm with the hammer throw and conclude Saturday evening with the running of the 3,000 meters.
The Tiger Track Classic, held at Hutsell-Rosen Track, will feature athletes from several schools across the southeast. Those schools scheduled to send members of their women's teams include Alabama, Charlotte, Columbus State, Duke, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Johnson C. Smith, Middle Tennessee, Tennessee State, Samford, South Alabama, USC Upstate, Southern Miss, Troy, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and Western Carolina.
The Auburn women's team enters the competition ranked 10th nationally in the preseason Top 25 rankings published by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Chanticleers are competing in their second consecutive meet away from the Grand Strand after a strong showing at last weekend's Weems Baskin Relays. At the Realys, Coastal Carolina tallied 12 top ten finishes, including two first place finishes. Claiming the top spots in their respective events were Christian Johnson in the 1,500 meters and Mary Lawrence in the pole vault.
Johnson cruised to the finish line in the 1,500m in 4:38.78 to establish a new personal record in the event. Lawrence's jump cleared a height of 11'7.75" in the pole vault to establish the Big South's third-best height this season.
