Women's Track and Field In Action in Day Two of Coastal Carolina/Shamrock Invitational
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Coastal Carolina women's track and field team was in action on day two of the 2009 Coastal Carolina/Shamrock Invitational today at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach. The squad earned a top five finish in the hammer, and a solid performance in the 4x200m relay.
Coastal Carolina had two of its top performances in the hammer throw, as sophomore Brittany Connor (Greenwood, S.C./Ladson) placed fourth overall with a mark of 157'5" (47.99m). Freshman Robin Callan (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) placed sixth with a throw of 153'8" (46.85m).
The real treat of the day came also came in the hammer throw, as 2008 Olympian and Coastal Carolina alum Amber Campbell unleashed a throw of 226'5" (69.01m) to take first in the event.
A quartet of All-Big South caliber sprinters combined to place second in the 4x200m relay. The foursome of junior Ikeiylah Brown (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton Head), senior Amber White (Ladson, S.C./Ladson), freshman Darriale Henley (Mauldin, S.C./JL Mann) and senior LeAuna Sistunk (Cincinnati, Ohio/Alabama) combined to turn in a time of 1:38.46 for the second place finish.
Day three of the Coastal Carolina/Shamrock Invitational gets underway tomorrow, March 21, at with Connor and Callan participating in the discus throw. Track events are set to commence at with the 4x100m relay. The final event of the meet will be the 4x400m relay at
