Women’s Basketball
Coastal Carolina seeks the first Big South Tournament title NCAA berth in program history. The tournament will be held at High Points’ Millis Center. The No. 7 seeded Chanticleers play No. 2 seed High Point in the quarterfinal round on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Should the Chants advance, they will play the winner of Winthrop/Radford on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The Big South Championship game is slated to tip at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Last week: Coastal fell in its final two games of the regular season at Presbyterian College on Friday and at Winthrop on Monday.

This week: The CCU baseball team (6-4) hosts the Chanticleer Classic featuring the Chants, Ohio State, Marist and Toledo. Coastal plays Toledo on Friday at Watson Stadium/Vrooman Field at 4 pm. The Chanticleers are scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday on Saturday at Watson Stadium, hosting Ohio State at Noon and Marist at 4 pm. On Sunday, Coastal will wrap up the event by hosting Ohio State at 1 pm at Watson Stadium.

On Wednesday, March 14, Coastal will host its regional rival College of Charleston at Watson Stadium for a 4 pm first pitch.

Last Week: The Chants, winners of three straight, improved to 6-4 with wins over defending Big Ten champion Illinois, Toledo and UNC Wilmington. Coastal dropped a 3-1 decision to Pittsburgh to start the week. Coastal’s pitching staff ranks 18th in the NCAA with a 2.25 ERA. The Chanticleer offense finally got on track in the wins Wednesday over Toledo and UNC Wilmington, seeing the team batting average rise 25 points.

This Week: The Chanticleers, who hold a 15-4 overall record, host La Salle University on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Coastal then plays in its final home tournament of the season on Friday through Sunday as it hosts the Chanticleer Showdown. The Chanticleers play North Carolina A&T at 3:30 p.m. on Friday followed by La Salle at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, Coastal plays North Carolina A&T at 11 a.m. and Hampton at 1 p.m. During the final day of the tournament the Chants play La Salle at noon.

Last Week:
The Coastal Carolina softball team hosted South Carolina on Wednesday and swept the Gamecocks, 2-1 and 5-2, for the first time at home since 2006 and are currently on a seven game winning streak. Coastal played in the Coastal Carolina Invitational on Friday, March 2 and Sunday, March 4. Saturday’s games were cancelled due to inclement weather. The Chanticleers beat Dartmouth 4-2 and the University of Nebraska-Omaha 5-0 on Friday. The Chanticleers also earned the win on Sunday as they beat Saint Peter’s 8-0 in five innings, as freshman pitcher Morgan Mastriania recorded the Chanticleers first no-hitter since 2010.

Men’s & Women’s Outdoor Track & Field
This week: The Chanticleers kick off their 2012 campaign as hosts Coastal Carolina Invitational at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach.  The meet, which gets under way on Friday at 10 a.m. with the men’s hammer throw and concludes on Saturday evening with the men’s 4x400-meter relay, features 47 teams competing over the two day event.

Last Week: Inclement weather throughout the region caused the eighth annual Battle of the Beaches meet, which was to be the Chants’ season opener, to be cancelled.

Women's Golf

This week: The CCU women's golf team will return to the course beginning on Tuesday with the opening round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational hosted by Hawai’i at the Kane’ohe Klipper Golf Course in Waikiki, Hawai’i. The two-day event will conclude on Wednesday.

Last week: The Chants turned in a 14h place finish at the rain shortened Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. Jessica Alexander led the Chanticleers with a 36-hole total of 151 to tie for 27th overall.

Women’s Tennis
This week:
The Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team is playing one match on Thursday against the Temple Owls. Match time is set for noon at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center on the campus of CCU. Coastal will play its first two road matches of the year when they travel to Orlando, Fla. to play Quinnipiac Monday March 12 at 10 a.m. followed by a 9:30 a.m. match on Tuesday against Rhode Island.

Last week: Coastal remained undefeated after beating Radford last week. Senior Miki Bunea was named Big South Player of the Week and Katie Fosnacht was named freshman of the week for the third time this season. Coastal (6-1) dropped its first match of the year on Wednesday, falling to UNCG 5-2.

Men’s Tennis
This week: The men’s tennis team faces the Temple Owls on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. followed by a noon match on Saturday, March 10 against James Madison University. Both matches will be held at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center. Then men will travel to Furman for the first of four road games on Wednesday March 14 at 3 p.m.

Last week: Coastal won its second conference game against Campbell on Tuesday as head coach Chris Powers won his 100th career win. The men also had a home win over UNC Greensboro earlier this week. Yusuke Kusuda was named Big South Player of the Week as the Chants improved to 8-1 on the season.
