Women's Track and Field Alumna Amber Campbell Set To Compete at US Indoor Championships

Former Coastal Carolina University women’s track and field All-American and current volunteer assistant coach Amber Campbell will be competing at the 2011 U.S. Indoor National Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., on Saturday, Feb. 26 in the indoor weight throw. Campbell will throwing at 8:30 p.m. (EST) and ESPN will broadcast the event on Sunday, Feb. 27.
Campbell is the current four-time defending national champion in the indoor weight throw and will be going for her fifth consecutive title. She currently ranks No. 1 in the world in the event. She is currently leading the Visa Challenge for the USA’s Top Indoor Athlete, which she won last year. The top indoor athlete will be announced at the end of the meet and will be broadcast by ESPN with the recipient being awarded $25,000.
Recently, the 2008 Olympian and event record holder won the Millrose Games with a 79’1” (24.10m) mark.
Campbell also participated for Team USA in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics where she placed 21st in the prelims of the hammer throw with a mark of 222'7" (67.86m). She was the top American finisher in the event.
Campbell, a five-time NCAA All-American and 16-time Big South Champion, holds the Coastal Carolina school records in the weight throw, indoor shot put, outdoor shot put, discus and the hammer throw. She graduated as the all-time American Collegiate record holder in the weight throw and the Co-American Collegiate record holder in the hammer throw.
