CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina University women’s indoor track and field team swept the Big South weekly awards this week with Erica Peake being named Big South Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week and Kierra Gabe earning Big South Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
It was the second straight week the Peake earned the honor this season. The sophomore from Spartanburg, S.C., posted two top-10 finishes at the Sykes and Sabock Challenge Cup over the weekend. In the 60 meters, she crossed the line in 7.69 to finish seventh. Peak then set a personal best in the 200-meter event with a seventh-place time of 24.72. She closed the meet out with the lead-off leg of the 4x400 meter relay as her team finished fifth with a Big South leading time of 3:51.
It is the first Big South weekly honor for Gabe, who placed second in the high jump with a Big South season-best mark of 5’ 8.0” at the Sykes and Sabock Challenge.
Both Peake and Gabe will travel to the Tiger Paw Invitational, hosted by Clemson on Feb. 11-12.
