ATLANTA, Ga.- Coastal Carolina University women's track and field took part in day one of the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday, May 14.


The javelin throw highlighted the day, as Deborah Mattern threw 138'2" (42.11 meters), taking second, while Caitlin Lupo followed in third with a throw of  137'06" (41.91 meters).


Also in the throws, Brittany Connor took fifth in the hammer with a toss of 176'11" (53.92 meters).


In the track events, Ikeiylah Brown took 25th in a competitive field in the 100-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 11.89. London Smalls ran 12.45 in 56th place and Samantha Kennan 12.70 finished 62nd.


In the 100-meter hurdles, the lone Chanticleer, Melissa Arango, placed 28th with a time of 14.63. Shelby Donahue was also the lone Chanticleer in the 1,500 meter, as she ran 4:51.53 in 39th place.


In the only jumping event of the day, Sierrah Oates cleared a mark of 18'7.25" (5.67 meters) in the long jump, taking 20th. Darriale Henley finished in 23rd with a jump of 18'5".


The Chanticleers will continue to compete in day two of the Georgia Tech Invitational on Saturday, May 15.
