LYNCHBURG, Va. - Two members of the Coastal Carolina women's track and field team competed in Thursday's Liberty Twilight Qualifier. The meet was held at the Flames' Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex and is one of the final four meets the Chanticleers will compete in before the NCAA East Preliminary Round commences on May 26.
The Chanticleers' lone representative in the 100 meter dash, freshman Gabrielle Lee, placed fourth overall in the trial heats of the event to advance to the finals. In the finals of the event, Lee improved her time to finish in 12.33 to take home a fourth place finish. Lee's time was .03 seconds off her season-best clip of 12.30 at the Big South Championship Meet.
Spartanburg, S.C. native Ashley Davis finished tenth in the 100 meter hurdles crossing the finish line in 14.91. Earlier this season, Davis won her first Big South Championship event crown as a member of the 4x100 meter relay team.
On Sunday, the Chanticleers will send seven team members to the Duke Twilight in Durham, N.C. Scheduled to compete are Mary Lawrence (pole vault), Shelby Nicosia (1,500m), Emily Marchini (1,500m), Janel Reeves (1,500m), Jamie Brusa (1,500m), Jessica Dennison (1,500m) and Jessica Dennison (3,000m steeplechase).
