Peake Paces Coastal with Two Wins in the Chanticleer Classic

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's track & field team claimed five first place finishes in the Chanticleer Classic on Friday afternoon at the Coastal Carolina Track & Field Complex.

On the track, the Chanticleers claimed four first place finishes. Erica Peake claimed top finishes in both the 200 meter and 400 meter races. Peake cruised to the finish line in the 400 meters with a time of 56.04. Her time of 24.99 in the 200 meters earned her the event win by over a full second.

Peake's win in the 200 meters led off the Chanticleers' sweep of the top three spots. London Smalls placed second with a time of 26.01 closely followed by Gabrielle Lee in third with a 26.15 clip.

London Smalls picked up her first event win of the year in the 100 meters as she ran a time of 12.33. Lee placed second in the event with a 12.49 clip. In the 100 meter hurdles sophomore Estefania Ramirez finished in the top spot with a personal best clip of 15.06.

The javelin saw five Coastal Carolina top ten finishes with Caitlin Lupo leading the charge with her first event win of the season with a toss of 40.15m (131-09). In second was Bridget Garrity with a distance of 35.85m (117-07) followed by Jenna Kazmierczak in third with a heave of 33.63m (110-04). Leah Presnar and Felicia Aiken finished with distances of 24.06 (78-11) and 23.26 (76-04), respectively. Presnar's throw was good for an eighth place finish, while Aiken placed ninth.

Anjulia Nicholson claimed a pair of second place finishes at the meet with a distance of 41.86m (137-04) in the discus and throw of 47.01m (154-03) in the hammer. Nicholson also placed sixth in the shot put with a put of 10.54m (34-07.00).

Coastal's Kazmierczak, Felicia Aiken and Leah Presnar also competed in the shot put with each finishing in the top 15. Kazmierczak placed tenth with a throw of 9.22 (30-3), while Aiken finished 11th with a distance of 8.38m (27-6). Presnar earned a 13th place finish with a throw of 8.15m (26-9).

Mary Lawrence tied for second in the pole vault with a cleared height of 3.50m (11-5.75) Felicia Aiken finished fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.45m (4-09.00).

Prior to the track events getting underway, Coastal Carolina honored its seniors for their accomplishments and contributions to Chanticleer track & field.

Up next, the Chanticleers will travel to Lexington, Va. to compete in the 2011 Women's Big South Outdoor Tack & Field Championship. The meet will begin on Thursday, April 21 and conclude on Saturday, April 23.
