Duke Invitational Results | Seminole Invitational Results

TALLAHASSE, Fla. / DURHAM, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's track team finished with strong showings at both the Seminole and Duke Invitationals this weekend.

The Chanticleers sent its top distance and middle distance runners to the Duke Invitational; while the top Chants in the sprints, jumps and throw traveled south to take part in the Seminole Invitational.

At the Seminole Invitational Deborah Mattern established a new Coastal Carolina and Big South Conference record in the javelin with a distance of 46.03m (151-00) as she won the event by a full three meters. Not to be outdone, Caitlin Lupo and Bridget Garrity also turned in to five finishes with throw of 39.66m (130-01) and 34.38m (112-09), respectively.

In the high jump Kierra Gabe matched her season-best mark of 1.65m (5-05) to claim third. Kandisa Allicock placed eighth with a cleared height of 1.60m (5-03).

Gabe also turned in a season-best performance in the long jump with a distance of 5.35m (17-06.75) to place eighth. Sierrah Oates took home tenth in the event with a leap of 5.33m (17-06).

Anjulia Nicholson, the conference leader in the discus, added another top ten to her season total with a toss of 39.96 (128-02) to place fourth. She also placed third in the hammer throw with a toss of 45.97m (150-10).

Mary Lawrence finished third in the pole vault with a cleared height of 3.50m (11-05.75).

On the track in Tallahassee, the Chanticleers were equally impressive. In the 100 meters Darriale Henley and Erica Peake placed eighth and ninth separated by a mere hundredth of a second.. Henley ran an 11.98, while Peake ran an 11.99.

The 400 meters saw Vondeeshia Humphries win her first event of the season as she finished in a time of 55.80. Three other Chants also placed in the top ten of the event as Santresa Jamison finished fourth (57.55) followed by Jerica Howard in sixth (58.27), and Thomasina Smith in ninth (1:00.11).

The Coastal hurdlers also faired well as Ashley Davis was ninth in the 100 meter hurdles (14.47), while Samantha Simile placed ninth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.01. Estefania Ramirez placed tenth in the 400 meter hurdles as she cross the finish line in 1:05.44.

At the Duke Invitational Emily Marchini finished sixth in the fastest section of the 5,000 meters in a Chanticleers season-best time of 17:38.58. Not far behind was Jamie Brusa who completed the event in 17:45.61 to place 11th.  Both Marchini's and Brusa's time are personal records.

Christian Johnson also turned in personal bests in the 800 meters and 1,500 meters with times of 2:14.89 and 4:36.76, respectively.  Additionally, Jessica Dennison ran a personal record 11:11.40 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, while Shelby Nicosia finished the 5,000 meters in a personal record shattering 19:05.86.

Also at Duke, Kara Gajoch placed ninth in the high jump with a height of 1.60m (5-03).

Coastal Carolina will host the Chanticleer Classic next Saturday, April 16.
