MYRTLE BEACH - Anjulia Nicholson won the discus throw to lead a contingent of 12 Coastal Carolina track and field members in the second and final day of the Coastal Carolina University Invitational at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach.
Nicholson unloaded her winning distance of 45.17m (148-02) on her first attempt of the day. Her throw was six-tenths of a meter better than the runner-up from conference rival Liberty.
Also impressing in the throwing events for the Chants was Ryan Minor with a sixth-place finish in the shot put. Minor threw for 15.36m (50-04.75) on his second attempt of the day. Tyler Swanson finished ninth in the event with a throw of 14.50 (47-07). Cameron Griggs followed Swanson with a 10th-place effort of 13.78m (45-02.50). Additionally, Griggs placed third in the discus with a throw of 49.55m (162-07). Swanson and Minor followed with final distances of 44.69m (146-07) and 44.10m (144-08), respectively.
Naomi Atkins turned in a second-place finish in the shot put with an event-best distance of 12.19m (40-00) on her second throw. Brittany Connor finished the event with a final distance of 11.52m (37-09.50).
On the track Kyle Kling paced the Chanticleers with a second-place finish in the 3,000m. Kling, who missed the cross country season as her recovered from an injury, finished the event in 8:39.54. Freshman Joseph Keitt was not far behind as he placed fifth, stopping the clock at 8:58.65. Tyler Cummings and Spencer Lange closed the race in times of 9:05.56 and 9:39.92, respectively.
In the women's 3,000m, Jessica Dennison placed 10th in the 34 competitor field with a time of 10:43.20.
Cameron Wells also made his season debut, carding times of 2:03.23 in the 800m and 4:09.47 in the 1,500m.
