Women's Track & Field Wrap Up Indoor Season, Begins Outdoor Season

The Chanticleers open up the 2010 full squad outdoor season at home March 12-13.

BLACKSBURG, Va./CONWAY, S.C. – Two members of the Coastal Carolina University women’s indoor track and field team finished up their season at the Virginia Tech Last Chance meet Saturday, March 6.

Senior Ikeiylah Brown ran a new Coastal Carolina indoor track record of 24.17 in the 200 meters to finish third overall.

Sophomore Darriale Henley finished the meet with an 18’1.75” (5.53m) mark in the long jump for an eighth-place finish.

In other action, the Chanticleers “B” squad opened the 2010 outdoor season at home at the Battle of the Beaches. Coastal had four individual event winners and finished with 20 top-three finishes.

Brittany Connor won her first individual titles of the season, capturing both the hammer throw with a distance of 160’4” (48.89m) and the discus with a 148’10” (45.37m) mark. Tenasia White and Anjulia Nicholson finished close behind in the hammer throw and discus with marks of 135’8”(41.35m) and 126’11”(38.69m) in the hammer throw and 116’9”(35.59m) and 115’10”(35.30m) in the discus, respectively.

In the javelin, the Chants went one-two-three with Deborah Mattern throwing 136’9” (41.69m) to finish first and Caitlin Lupo placing second after a 126’5”(38.53m) throw. Placing third was Bridget Garrity with a 122’1”(37.21m) mark and rounding out the pack in 12th, Mikaela Terry with a 71’11”(21.92m) mark.

Nicholson and White finished second and third in the shot put with marks of 35’1”(10.69m) and 32’6.5”(9.92m), respectively.

Kristen Crawford was the lone participant in the long jump, placing 10th, while also finishing fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 33’4”(10.16m). Kandisa Allicock placed third in the triple jump with a 33’5.75”(10.20m) mark. Also in the long jump, Shanace Issac concluded with a 33’1.25”(10.09m) mark.

Allicock had a good showing in the high jump, earning an individual title after clearing 5’3”(1.60m) while Terry and Kara Gajoch tied for second after both jumped 5’1”(1.55m).

In track events, the Chants picked up the third, fourth, fifth and seventh spots in the 100-meter hurdles from Allicock (15.11), Issac (15.18), Estefania Ramirez (15.54) and Jenna Kazmierczak (16.76).

Jerica Howard and Melekia Simpson tied for third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.51. Crystal Robinson finished fifth at 12.54, while London Smalls placed seventh at 12.82. Howard added another top-three finish in the 200 meters, placing second with a time of 26.20. Simpson was right behind Howard in third, crossing the finish in 26.66 and Thomasena Smith came in sixth, followed by Crystal Robinson in ninth.

Felicia Aiken earned her first top-three finish of the season in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing second with a time of 1:07.63. Ramirez and Kazmierczak took the third and fourth slots, crossing the line in 1:09.94 and 1:10.73, respectively.

The 4x100-meter relay team, consisting of Jerica Howard, Robinson, Allicock and Felicia Aiken, represented Coastal well, finishing second with a time of 48.77.
