UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Coastal Carolina University women’s indoor track and field squad wrapped up day two of competition at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup in University Park. Coastal finished the meet in 11th place, while the Chanticleers had good showings individually, earning nine top-10 finishes on the weekend, including three on day two.
Senior Ikeiylah Brown took fifth in the 200 meters after turning in a time of 24.38, while Santresa Jamison placed ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 57.01. Both Brown and Jamison joined Kierra Gabe and Vondeeshia Humphries on the 4x400-meter relay team, who finished eighth overall in the event with a time of 3:51.08.
In other track events, Shelby Donahue and Christian Johnson turned in season-best performances in the mile run with times of 5:06.49 and 5:15.46, respectively. Humphries ran a 59.12 in the 400 meters, while Felicia Aiken and Estefania Ramirez were close behind, turning in times of 1:00.73 and 1:04.75 in the event.
In the 200 meters, Jamison finished 22nd with a time of 25.79 and Samantha Keenan was close behind at 26th, crossing the line in a season-best time of 25.98. Joyce Curtin was the top Chanticleer to finish in the 3,000 meters at 10:58.67, while Rindi Wood turned in a season-best time of 10:58.67 in the event.
Brittany Connor was the top Chant in the field events, finishing 11th overall in the shot put with a season-best 38’0.75 (11.59m) mark. Shantelle Patterson finished right behind Connor in the shot put with a 37’0.25” (11.28m) throw. Robin Callan and Anjulia Nicholson rounded out the pack for the Chants in the shot put, finishing with 34’6.75” (10.53m) and 31’0.50” (9.46m) throws, respectively.
Kierra Gabe had a good showing in the high jump, clearing 5’5” (1.65m), and the triple jump, placing 12th with a 37’9.50” (11.52m) mark. Thomasina Smith finished the meet with a 35’1.25” (10.70m) leap in the triple jump.
The Chanticleers will send athletes to two different meets Feb. 12-13. Part of the team will compete at the Tiger Paw Invitational at Clemson, while others will participate in the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
