BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Coastal Carolina University women's indoor track and field team opened up its 2010 season at the Virginia Tech Invitational.

The Chanticleers recorded two top-10 finishers, as senior Ikeiylah Brown placed eighth with a time of 7.55 in the 60-meter dash and sophomore Robin Callan finished seventh in the weight throw with a 49'2.25" mark, a personal best.

In other action, junior Samantha Simile placed 23rd in the 500 meters with a time of 1:23.05, followed by Mikaela Terry and Jenna Kazmierczak, who finished with times of 1:24.83 and 1:26.86, respectively.

Sophomore Santresa Jamison finished first for the Chants in the 300 meters at 18th with a time of 40.39. Vondeeshia Humphries was next to cross the line for Coastal at 41.51, good for 28th.

In the field events, Brittany Connor joined Callen, finishing 15th in the weight throw with a 42'3.50" mark and freshman Anjulia Nicholson was not far behind, placing 19th after a 36'0.25" mark.

Day two of the Virginia Tech Invitational will begin at 11 a.m., with the women's high jump, while the track events are slated to start at 12:15 p.m. with the women's 5,000 meters.
