Women's Tennis Competes at Southern Intercollegiate Championships

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team competed in the annual Southern Intercollegiate Championships hosted by South Carolina, Oct. 26-28. Senior Amy Pazahanick (Canton, Georgia/Brookwood (Georgia Southern)) and sophomore Maria Camberos (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/Instituto Lomar del Real) each posted 2-1 records over the weekend.

 

Pazahanick opened with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Georgia Southern’s Kristi Kegerreis before falling to eventual Flight A-2 Singles champion Nastasha Vuckovic (South Carolina) 6-4, 6-3. Pazahanick rebounded with a 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-4) decision over Chelsea Albertz (College of Charleston).

 

In Flight B-3 Singles action, Camberos fell to Davidson’s Kim Whelan 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 before posting 6-1, 6-0 and 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) victories in the consolation round.

 

Senior Sophie Ahlberg (Stockholm,Sweden/Adalsskolan) went 1-1. She fell to Flight B-2 Singles champion Miljana Jocic (South Carolina) 6-0, 6-2 and downed Virginia Tech’s Bethan James 7-5, 6-7 (6), 1-0 (10-6).

 

Sophomore Kimberly Webb (Usk, Wales/Millfield School) picked up a 6-2, 6-1 first round victory in the opening round of Flight B-1 Singles. She dropped her next two matches 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0.

 

Both freshman Laurel Bolesky (Stockholm,Sweden/Adalsskolan) in Flight 1-A Singles and junior Tina Petkova (Oakville, Ontario, Canada/St. Ignatius of Loyola) in Flight C-1 Singles went 0-2.

 

In doubles action, the team of Bolesky and Pazahanick picked up an 8-2 victory over Virginia Tech’s A-1 Doubles squad before dropping their next two matches. The teams of Ahlberg/Webb (A-2) and Camberos/Petkova (A-3) went 0-2.

 

The Lady Chanticleers wrap up the fall season at the UNCW Invitational set for Nov. 3-5.
