The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team is competing in the Doctors Vision Center Invitational in Wilmington, N.C. The Lady Chants had two players advance to the finals in their respective bracket.
Senior Marie Matrka (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington) advanced to the finals in the Flight A bracket, defeating Emily Wade of UNC Greensboro 0-6, 7-6 (5), 10-4 and Sallie Kiser of UNC Wilmington 6-1, 6-3. She fell to UNCGs Lisa Suggs 6-2, 6-1 in the finals. Senior Virginie Dinh (Maisons Albert, France/Sophia) won the consolation bracket in Flight A, defeating Wade 6-1, 6-3 in the final. Dinh also defeated A.C. Talus of High Point 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 before the Wade win.
In Flight B, sophomore Nicole Lemmerer (Bad Mitterndorf, Austria/Borg Bad Aussee) lost her first match, but defeated Lindsey Boykin of UNC Asheville 6-1, 6-1 to tie for fifth place. Junior Rosemary Younger (Atlanta, Ga./Marist) was in the consolation semifinals, but fell to Kristen Mears of UNC Wilmington. In Flight C, sophomore Sarize Coetzee (Bloemfontein, South Africa/Texas Tech) defeated Morgan Martin of UNCA 6-1, 6-0 and Nicole Massimino of UNC Wilmington 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals. She beat Ana Martin of UNCG 6-1, 6-4 before defaulting to Whitney Miles of UNC Greensboro.
In the doubles bracket, Matrka and Dinh advanced to the semifinals before falling to Suggs and Kate LaCoste of UNC Greensboro 9-8 (5).
