Women's Tennis Named to ITA All-Academic Team

CONWAY, S.C. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced recently that the Coastal Carolina University women's tennis team has been named to the 2006 ITA All-Academic Team for the eighth year in a row.

 

“This is a great honor for our team to be recognized nationally with this award, head coach Jody Davis. Our team continues to perform well in the classroom. This is our eighth year in a row that we have been an All-Academic team. Our faculty does a great job in preparing our student-athletes for their futures so we share this award with them.”

 

Five players were named as ITA Scholar Athletes, Sofie Ahlberg (Stockholm, Sweden/Adalsskolan), Sarize Coetzee (Bloemfontein, South Africa/Oranje Meisieskool/Texas Tech), Hayley Rudman ( Johannesburg, South Africa/Northcliff/Mississippi State) and recent graduates Virginie Dinh (Maisons Albert, France/Sophia) and Petra Jantti (Haukiverkko Espo, Finland/ Tapiolan Lukio).

 

 

The ITA All-Academic Team away is awarded to teams that have a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above.  All eligible student-athletes who are on the roster and have competed in at least one varsity match average into the GPA for the academic year.  The ITA Scholar-Athlete award is earned by a player following three criteria; they must be a varsity letterwinner, have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters. 

 

The Lady Chanticleers had a 3.55 grade point average for the 2005-06 academic year.
