Women's Tennis To Take On #6 Clemson In Opening Round of NCAA Championships

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis will take on No.6 Clemson in the opening round of the NCAA Championship on May 11. The Lady Chanticleers earned the Big South Championship this season and finished the year with a 20-5 overall record.   “This is absolutely a very exciting time for our team,” head coach Jody Davis. “We are excited to play in the national tournament against a great team like Clemson. We are going to Clemson to have fun, play hard and represent Coastal Carolina and this community the best way we can.”    The Clemson women's tennis boasts a 20-4 overall record and was ranked sixth in this week's Fila/ITA Tennis poll, while three players and three Tiger doubles teams were listed in the individual rankings.   The NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Subcommittee selected the 64 teams and 16 first- and second-round sites for the 2007 NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championships. First- and second-round competition will be conducted May 11-13 with the winner of each site advancing to the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, hosted by the University of Georgia. The team championship will be held May 18-22.   The teams will play a single-elimination tournament at 16 first- and second-round sites (four teams at each site) and the finals site (16-team bracket) to determine the national champion. The matches shall be regulation dual matches with three (3) eight-game, pro-set doubles played for one team point, followed by six (6) singles matches, each valued at one team point, played best of three sets.
