Women's Tennis Earns Five Big South Conference Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina University's women's tennis squad had three players earn Big South Conference honors from the League’s head coaches, it was announced this evening at the awards ceremony held on the campus of Radford University. Sophomore Miki Bunea and senior Maria Camberos earned their respective flight championships, while Bunea and junior Lexi Bolesky were named All-Big South for their play this year. In addition, Camberos was named to the League's All-Academic team.

Bunea has a team-best 28-5 overall record, including a Coastal-best 21-2 in dual matches and 6-1 in Big South play, with all league matches at No. 2, where she earned also earned the Flight Championship as well as garnering All-Big South. Her 16-2 mark at No. 2 is most wins at any slot by a Chanticleer. She won 12 straight matches in singles to open the spring season and also had a six-match winning streak, with both losses in three sets. Overall, she is also 4-2 in three-set matches this year and earned Big South Player of the Week last week for her wins over Presbyterian and Gardner-Webb.

Bolesky has an 19-10 overall record, including 15-7 in duals this season. She is 11-7 at No. 1 on the season and 4-0 at No. 2, including a seven-match winning streak in singles. Earlier in the season, she also had a stretch where she won 12 of 13 matches. This is Bolesky's fourth overall All-Big South honor and second in singles, as she also earned the accolade last year.

Camberos earned the flight championship at No. 5, where she posted a 6-1 record in Big South play and 8-2 overall at the slot. For the year, Camberos is 15-8, including 11-7 in duals during the year. A two-time member of the Big South Presidential Honor Roll, Camberos also earned All-Academic Team honors with her 3.62 in marketing.

The Chanticleers will open the 2010 Big South Conference Women's Tennis Championships Thursday, April 22 in Radford, Va., taking on No. 6-seed Gardner-Webb at 3 p.m.
