No. 2 Coastal Carolina Defeats No. 3 Charleston Southern in Semifinals of the 2007 Big South Womens Tennis Tournament
RADFORD, Va. The second-seeded Coastal Carolina Lady Chanticleers defeated No. 3 seed Charleston Southern, 4-2, in the semifinals of the 2007 Big South Womens Tennis Championship Friday afternoon at the Dedmon Center Courts in Radford, Va.
Coastal Carolina took the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 flights. Hayley Rudman (Johannesburg, South Africa/Northcliff High School (Mississippi State University)) and Amy Pazahanick (Canton, Georgia/Brookwood High School (Georgia Southern University)) defeated Meryam Tazi and Patricia Jaeger 8-1 at the No. 1 position. At No. 3, Sofie Ahlberg (Stockholm,Sweden/Adalsskolan) and Sarize Coetzee (Bloemfontein, South Africa/Oranje Meisieskool (Texas Tech)) picked up the 8-2 win over Andrea Schutte and Amanda Swindall. The Charleston Southern tandem of Lina Benkirane and Zineb Hilali were victorious at the No. 2 flight with an 8-3 win over Kimberley Webb (Usk, Wales/Millfield School) and Maria Camberos (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/Instituto Lomar del Real).
In singles action, Pazahanick defeatedHilali 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 3 flight. At No. 4, Webb downed Jaeger 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Camberos closed the match out with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Swindall at the No. 6 flight. Charleston Southerns singles wins came as Tazi defeated Rudman 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 and Benkirane downed Coetzee 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 2 flight.
With the win, Coastal Carolina improves to 19-5 overall and moves on to the finals were it will play No. 1 Winthrop at 1:00pm on Saturday, April 21.
