Women's Tennis Team Earns Five Big South Awards

Third-Seeded Coastal Faces Liberty Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Opening Round

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Five members of the Coastal Carolina women's tennis team have received Big South Conference honors as announced during the conference's annual postseason banquet held Wednesday.

Senior Diana Mortlock has been named the Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's tennis and also has been selected to the all-conference doubles team with partner Miki Bunea. Mortlock holds a 4.00 GPA in Marketing; she is from Dordrecht, South Africa, and transferred to Coastal for her junior year. She finished the regular season with a 17-4 record in singles matches along with a 13-7 mark with Bunea from the No. 1 doubles position.

Senior Miki Bunea turned in a 14-7 record from the No. 1 flight to make the all-conference singles team for the third consecutive year.

Freshman Katie Fosnacht tied for the No. 4 flight champion with Giovanna Portioli of Winthrop. Fosnacht posted a 17-4 singles record and a 16-4 doubles mark and has been named Big South Freshman of the Week on four occasions.

The doubles team of Maria Hesketh and Kourtney Kowal has been named the No. 3 flight champion after posting a 15-3 overall doubles mark and a 7-1 finish in Big South play.

The Coastal Carolina women's tennis will compete in the Big South Conference Championship beginning Thursday, April 19 at the Asheville Racquet Club. The third-seeded Chants will play sixth-seeded Liberty at 3:30 p.m.
