Women's Tennis Finishes Regular Season With a 5-2 Win Over CSU

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University women's tennis team defeated the Lady Bucs from Charleston Southern on Saturday, Apr. 14. Coastal swept the doubles point in the victory.   In the first position, Hayley Rudman (Johannesburg, South Africa/Northcliff (Mississippi State)) was defeated by Meryam Tazi in three sets, the first with eight ties, 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 in singles play.  Sarize Coetzee (Bloemfontwin, South Afica/Oranje Meisieskool (Texas Tech)) grabbed a win over Lina Benkirane in two sets, 6-0 and 7-5.    At No. 3, Amy Pazahanick (Canton, Ga./Brookwood High School (Georgia Southern)) fell to CSU's Andrea Schutte in two sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-1. Kim Webb (Usk, Wales/Millfield School) defeated Amanda Swindell, 6-2, 6-0 at the fourth position.   Sofie Ahlberg (Stockholm, Sweden/Adalsskolan) beat Lady Buc Nazli Kutuk in two sets at No. 5, 6-3, 6-1. In the sixth spot, Maria Camberos (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/Instituto Lomar del Real) defeated Ashley Heard in two, 6-2, 6-4.   With the conference win, CCU improves to 6-1 in league play and 17-5 overall. The Lady Chants will now head to Radford, Va. for the Big South Conference Championship. Coastal will have a second-place seed and will take on No. 7 Radford at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Apr. 19.   Winthrop finished the season unbeaten to take the No. 1 seed, while High Point posted a 4-3 record to finish No. 4.  Liberty, Birmingham-Southern and Radford each finished with 2-5 records.  The Lady Flames landed the No. 5 seed, the Panthers posted the No. 6 seed and Radford came in at No. 7 in the League’s tie breaker system.  UNC Asheville’s finished at No. 8 with an 0-7 record in the League.   The 2007 Big South Women’s Tennis Championship begins Thursday, April 19 with four quarterfinal games and concludes with the Championship game on Saturday, April 21 in Radford, Va.  The Big South’s Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament.  The Conference Championship schedule is as follows:   Thursday, April 19, 2006
