BIRMINGHAM, ALA. The womens tennis team of Coastal Carolina received five Big South honors at the Big South Conference banquet, in Birmingham Alabama, Wednesday, April 12. The event was held prior to the opening of the 2006 Big South Conference Womens Tennis Championship, April 13-15.
Head Coach Jody Davis was named the Big South Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year. Davis has been named Coach of the Year four times while at Coastal. He guided the Lady Chanticleers to a 20-3 overall record and 6-1 in the Big South during 2006. Coastal had a 14-match winning streak from Feb. 4-Mar. 17 including three Big South matches.
Sophomore Sofie Ahlberg (Stockholm, Sweden/Adalsskolan) was named to the Big South Conference singles team. Ahlberg has marked a 19-2 overall record and is 5-1 in league play for the season. Ahlberg was the 2005 Freshman of the Year in the Big South Conference. Junior Hayley Rudman ((Johannesburg, South Africa/Northcliff (Mississippi State University)) was also named to the All-Big South Conference singles team. Rudman finished the regular season with an overall record of 15-6 and was 5-1 in Big South play.
Senior Virginie Dinh (Maisons Albert, France/Sophia) and Rudman were named to the All-Big South Conference doubles team. Dinh and Rudman have an overall record of 16-3 and are 4-2 in league play, Dinh was named All-Big South in doubles during the 2005 season as well.
Senior Petra Jantti (Haukiverkko Espo, Finland/Tapiolan Lukio) was also named to the All-Academic team with a 3.67 in business management.
The No. 2 Lady Chanticleers will play No. 7 Radford Thursday, April 13 at 2 p.m.
