CONWAY, S.C. - In a battle between the top two teams in the Big South, Winthrop University (18-3, 7-0 Big South) defeated Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team (15-5, 6-1 Big South), 4-2, Friday, April 8 at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina.

Senior Marie Matrka (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington) won the opening match for Coastal 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Sofie Ahlberg (Stockholm, Sweden/Adalsskolan) won the fourth match for CCU 7-6 (4), 1-6, and 7-6 (7). Doubles matches were not played on the afternoon.

Coastal men’s program will next be in action on Wednesday, Apr. 6 as they hosted Big South Conference rival, Charleston Southern at 2:30 p.m.
